New research reveals that around 50% of the UK population are at present doing at least some shopping on the internet. That means that there are many millions of individuals who are searching for firms which can match their requirements. If half of the population are shopping on the internet, then no doubt they are also seeking firms to assist in other areas of their life in the same way.

As with most changes in lifestyle, industry usually follows the consumer, and therefore it would be no surprise to find that Internet Business opportunities are also on the increase, with such jobs being best paid careers. The very fact that most Internet Business jobs can be done from home, with nothing more than a computer and internet connection being required, these Work From Home opportunities are becoming more and more popular. How many firms on the high street would have so many potential customers visiting them daily? The fact that any Internet Business is available 24 hours a day makes it much more appealing to the public. They can shop at any time, to suit themselves, and purchases are usually delivered promptly.

Many people who would not have been able to afford to start up in business on the high street now find that they are able to compete with other, better known firms, as they can Work From Home rather than having the overheads involved with a high street company and realizing that these are now becoming some of the Best Paid Careers. If they have to keep stock, they do not require upmarket premises to hold it, as they would in all probability if they were being visited by customers. As long as they have a place to keep the stock secure and in good condition, this is acceptable. Also they may not have to have a huge level of stock in situ, if they have a good rapport with their supplier, as goods could be delivered directly to the purchaser.

For any Internet Business which delivers a service rather than merchandise, having a simple internet site, advising of the services available and allowing potential customers to complete a form, advising of their needs would mean it would be possible to keep track on all future job opportunities and once these have been converted into work, be able to effectively assign work to their team on a daily or weekly basis. So, for this type of company, as well as the internet site, keeping a database of jobs and staff, a way of invoicing customers, plus the monitoring of bills to be paid, it is easy to see how it could Work From Home very efficiently.

If, so far, approximately 50% of the UK population, are buying on the internet, there is still the opportunity for significant expansion in this field and therefore the Best Paid Careers for the foreseeable future could well be in the Internet Business and building up the number of our working population who choose to Work From Home.

As viewers of the old BBC television show Tomorrows World will remember, an issue was made during the 1970’s and 1980’s about the pending expansion of work from home opportunities. It was keenly anticipated that by the new millennium (i.e. ten years ago) a significant section of the population would find it possible to carry out their tasks for employers at home without having to trek to employers offices. Work From Home opportunities were tipped to become the answer to road congestion issues across the country as the daily commute would eventually drop away as fewer and fewer people found it necessary to make that daily journey. Economic benefits would be massive as not only would the economic cost of traffic congestion fall, but workers efficiency would increase as they dispense with the commuting dead time. Naturally there would always remain a percentage of jobs which would continue to need the attendance of workers at employers’ sites. Most production jobs would require this, but many service based jobs lend themselves to the work from home ethos. And as Britain continues to move away from production and towards service provision as the main economic activity, so it was though that the work from home revolution would by now have been complete.

Tools would need to take part in this work from home revolution. The chief focus of the predictions being made focussed around bettering telecommunications. One often touted advance which would act as a major springboard was video conferencing. This would let teams of home workers to attend virtual meetings with colleagues and managers. This could replace the conventional meeting and let workers to share data and work from home with as much effect as from an office.

The web was not forecast, but it now turns out that the internet can provide a much broader set of resources and communication options that should enable working from home to become even more possible. Communication by e mail and the attachment of any form of document, video conferencing in the form of on line virtual meetings, training conducted on line perhaps in the form of webinars add further opportunity. Add to that the abundance of broadband provision throughout homes in the UK means that fewer and fewer individuals are barred from this new way of working. But the arrival of Online Jobs and the internet business per se have also increased work from home options. Online Jobs let workers to carry out rather complex tasks at their own computer and the net enables them to deliver the fruits of their labours anywhere worldwide almost straight away. The Internet Business itself, designing, building and optimising internet sites, also contributes.

So it does seem that at last the work from home experience is becoming available to more and more people. In the UK broadband is now supporting nearly 60% of homes and that figure continues to rise. However there will always exist a hub of jobs, mainly in manufacturing, that will not yield to this change. There will also continue to be a need for one to one human contact on many activities. One thinks particularly of sales and business development, where there would seem likely to always be the need for face to face meetings. As a footnote, it does seem in recent years that the persistent growth in daily motor car use might have actually slowed, though not actually reversed. Maybe we are at last seeing the beginning of the work from home uprising.

All species develop over time, with weaker genes receding and those which enhance the species becoming more dominant. However, as lifestyles adjust, so do the genes which are recognized as the desired genes. When men hunted for food, they were required to be strong and fast. The man who was weak would not stay alive and women would be looking for effective providers for them and their offspring.

Time moved on and it was not necessary for men to hunt for food, women now looked for partners who were good providers, money-wise. Guys wanted women to be good homemakers and parents. We, on the whole, wanted partners who were good communicators and had good personal hygiene habits.

Now, with the growth in Internet Business, more people Work From Home and it may not now be the case that those who were thought to be a bit geeky are still regarded in this light. Those with Online Jobs, who are able to make a good living in this new and expanding industry may be those whose genes we would wish to have in the future.

Sometimes people will try and push evolution in a certain direction – think Adolf Hitler and his desire for a superior race, how he was willing to kill anybody who he thought inferior, mainly based on colour and religion – however, the significant changes are those which happen naturally. Therefore, the advance into Online Jobs through the Internet Business, giving the chance to Work From Home are more likely to have a long-lasting effect.

To sit at a laptop, alone, does not take the normal social skills connected with human beings, we evolved as we did because of our very need and requirement to be social animals. What, therefore could change within our evolution route if it is no longer necessary to be perfectly groomed, attractive and chatty? Will we be able to survive as a species if we no longer need others in order to fulfil our daily needs and requirements? Will we adapt to this change in our nature and be happy to communicate over the net, even while we are sat in the same room as the person with whom we are having the conversation?

I like to think that the increase in Internet Business has given us free-will to make choices. Do we want to go out to our job, or would we rather Work From Home? Do we wish to spend hours shopping in the malls, or do we prefer a quick purchase from an internet shop?

Perhaps this is just another little step in our evolution. Medicine made great leaps in being able to assist weaker members of the species to function 100% in our society and perhaps the internet increase will be just another such move. It would definitely be interesting to understand how this will change the pattern of human lives over the next few thousand years. It could be that it will just be a very small blip which will not make any great difference, but then again it may be the dawn of a whole new era.
