As viewers of the old BBC television show Tomorrows World will remember, an issue was made during the 1970’s and 1980’s about the pending expansion of work from home opportunities. It was keenly anticipated that by the new millennium (i.e. ten years ago) a significant section of the population would find it possible to carry out their tasks for employers at home without having to trek to employers offices. Work From Home opportunities were tipped to become the answer to road congestion issues across the country as the daily commute would eventually drop away as fewer and fewer people found it necessary to make that daily journey. Economic benefits would be massive as not only would the economic cost of traffic congestion fall, but workers efficiency would increase as they dispense with the commuting dead time. Naturally there would always remain a percentage of jobs which would continue to need the attendance of workers at employers’ sites. Most production jobs would require this, but many service based jobs lend themselves to the work from home ethos. And as Britain continues to move away from production and towards service provision as the main economic activity, so it was though that the work from home revolution would by now have been complete.

Tools would need to take part in this work from home revolution. The chief focus of the predictions being made focussed around bettering telecommunications. One often touted advance which would act as a major springboard was video conferencing. This would let teams of home workers to attend virtual meetings with colleagues and managers. This could replace the conventional meeting and let workers to share data and work from home with as much effect as from an office.

The web was not forecast, but it now turns out that the internet can provide a much broader set of resources and communication options that should enable working from home to become even more possible. Communication by e mail and the attachment of any form of document, video conferencing in the form of on line virtual meetings, training conducted on line perhaps in the form of webinars add further opportunity. Add to that the abundance of broadband provision throughout homes in the UK means that fewer and fewer individuals are barred from this new way of working. But the arrival of Online Jobs and the internet business per se have also increased work from home options. Online Jobs let workers to carry out rather complex tasks at their own computer and the net enables them to deliver the fruits of their labours anywhere worldwide almost straight away. The Internet Business itself, designing, building and optimising internet sites, also contributes.

So it does seem that at last the work from home experience is becoming available to more and more people. In the UK broadband is now supporting nearly 60% of homes and that figure continues to rise. However there will always exist a hub of jobs, mainly in manufacturing, that will not yield to this change. There will also continue to be a need for one to one human contact on many activities. One thinks particularly of sales and business development, where there would seem likely to always be the need for face to face meetings. As a footnote, it does seem in recent years that the persistent growth in daily motor car use might have actually slowed, though not actually reversed. Maybe we are at last seeing the beginning of the work from home uprising.

All species develop over time, with weaker genes receding and those which enhance the species becoming more dominant. However, as lifestyles adjust, so do the genes which are recognized as the desired genes. When men hunted for food, they were required to be strong and fast. The man who was weak would not stay alive and women would be looking for effective providers for them and their offspring.

Time moved on and it was not necessary for men to hunt for food, women now looked for partners who were good providers, money-wise. Guys wanted women to be good homemakers and parents. We, on the whole, wanted partners who were good communicators and had good personal hygiene habits.

To sit at a laptop, alone, does not take the normal social skills connected with human beings, we evolved as we did because of our very need and requirement to be social animals. What, therefore could change within our evolution route if it is no longer necessary to be perfectly groomed, attractive and chatty? Will we be able to survive as a species if we no longer need others in order to fulfil our daily needs and requirements? Will we adapt to this change in our nature and be happy to communicate over the net, even while we are sat in the same room as the person with whom we are having the conversation?

I like to think that the increase in Internet Business has given us free-will to make choices. Do we want to go out to our job, or would we rather Work From Home? Do we wish to spend hours shopping in the malls, or do we prefer a quick purchase from an internet shop?

Perhaps this is just another little step in our evolution. Medicine made great leaps in being able to assist weaker members of the species to function 100% in our society and perhaps the internet increase will be just another such move. It would definitely be interesting to understand how this will change the pattern of human lives over the next few thousand years. It could be that it will just be a very small blip which will not make any great difference, but then again it may be the dawn of a whole new era.

There are in all probability a lot of different reasons why individuals are choosing to Work From Home more now than ever before. With a growth in Internet Business, the Work From Home chances have become some of the Careers In Demand, rather than how these roles used to be portrayed.

At one time, a lot of the work which could be done from the home were fairly low paid and for anyone who was on the career ladder, this would not be a prime choice. This is no longer the case, as the Internet Business has picked up, so have the jobs associated with that business, either in working primarily in this area, or as a result of the ease with which it is possible to run a business from home, rather than having to be in an office environment.

There will be other individuals who are coming up to retirement age, but who do not wish to retire completely. What will they choose to do? Maybe the option to be involved in a still growing market will make them think that they are not being sent out to grass just yet. Perhaps they would only want to work part time, but still maintain one of the Careers In Demand, not really wanting to have the pressures of a busy full time career, but still needing to keep their brain active. This is all possible via the internet today.

At the start of the working life, folk who are starting their families may think that they do not want to lose out on the early years of their babies’ development and would rather take the time to earn reasonable sums while they Work From Home than work for some business where they would need to commute. Due to the fact the Internet Business has opened up some of the Careers In Demand, this is now a realistic option.

So, it would appear that family circumstances; oncoming retirement; increased opportunities; redundancy; commuting; self employment; all of these could be the cause for changing working patterns. Maybe it is for some other reason entirely, but I think if the Internet Business keeps growing as it has done over recent years, this trend will not go away any time soon.

I am sure most of us have spotted, at some time, the hand-made cardboard signs, attached to traffic lights or street lamps, offering the prospect to earn big money in our spare time. They are often hand-written, advise of huge amounts which can be gained in a few hours, and give a phone number to ring if you wish to get involved. If the claims made are right, then these could be some of the Best Paid Careers going.

Surely, it has to be considered, if these jobs were as high earning as they are advertised, then they would not be published on hand-made cardboard signs with only a telephone number for calling. These would be Careers In Demand, with many individuals vying for the prospect to work with them. They would be advertising for the best possible recruits and would be ready to pay for this advertising to ensure they got them.

It could be these are Work From Home opportunities, whereby it is the job of the person doing the work to purchase certain items from the people offering the massive sums, at over-inflated prices, to sell on.

Then there are the roles where one recruit gets other individuals to join the group, being paid in actual fact for recruiting folk into the scam – there is actually no job at all just money for anyone you recruit who then hands over cash to learn how to make this fantastic amount and finds out all they need to do is get others to part with cash. Never part with cash unless you are sure exactly what you are paying for and that it is worth the fee.

Maybe they require those wanting to be part of these Best Paid Careers to part with a large amount of cash to undertake training which might mean that it will be some considerable time before these recruits see any profit. If you are paying for training, be certain that it is training that will be useful to you in your future career progression. Pay for nothing until you know what the benefit to you will be.

Because all we have is a telephone number, often a mobile telephone number at that, it would be very complicated to track down the firm if there was any cause for concern in the future and it would be difficult for trading standards or other governing bodies to put a stop to their practice. In order to disappear, they would just be required to stop using their mobile phone and they are gone.

Most of us know the saying “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true” and therefore we should not look at these as Careers In Demand, but more as scams to steer clear of. There are genuine Work From Home opportunities which can give good return for investment, and these firms will not be shy of saying who they are, where their registered office is, what costs are involved and what return you can honestly achieve. If you want to earn more money, these would be a much safer bet than anything you may see displayed by the side of the road.
